My name is Waylon. I live in Portland, OR. This blog is my dabbling in Zen/Buddhism, taking gratuitous vegan food porn pics, and sharing what little I understand about the human condition.
Sometimes Bob knows just what to say. Listening to this album on my way home from work didn’t feel so much like the proverbial ice pick to the heart. Maybe more like a rubber meat tenderizer.

Your breath is sweet
Your eyes are like two jewels in the sky
Your back is straight your hair is smooth
On the pillow where you lie
But I don’t sense affection
No gratitude or love
Your loyalty is not to me
But to the stars above
Bob Dylan was my first musical/creative writing/inspirational love. Even after all of this time he still has a special place in my heart & mind. He is woven into how I think, write, and process — has shaped the pathways of my right brain.
Dylan, for me, embodies the courageousness of spirit. He never asked what the world thought of his work; or at least it never really seemed that way. Have you listened to some of his albums from the 80s? I mean, they almost make me blush! But at the same time I love those albums and those songs because they were what he wanted to say. He didn’t necessarily give much of a crap how they would be received. There’s integrity in that.
He keeps going. He is still touring, writing songs, carving his own unique path. I really respect that kind of spirit.

Oh all the money that in my whole life I did spend
Be it mine right or wrongfully
I let it slip gladly to my friends
To tie up the time most forcefully
But the bottles are done
We’ve killed each one
And the table’s full and overflowed
And the corner sign
Says it’s closing time
So I’ll bid farewell and be down the road.
Restless Farewell ~ Bob Dylan
Genius. Typography patron saint Jonathan Hoefler remixes a vintage teacher’s aid chart titled “The Child” with Milton Glaser’s iconic Dylan poster.

This is simply too awesome.
This is one of my favorite B-sidey Dylan bootleg songs. It’s called “Seven Days.”
I think that when my back was turned,
the whole world behind me burned
it’s been a while,
since we walked down that long, long aisle
we cried on a cold and frosty morn,
we cried because our souls were torn
so much for tears
so much for these long and wasted years.
Visions of Johanna is one of my favorite Bob Dylan songs. I like this accoustic version so much better than the more up-tempo version that made it onto the actual Blonde on Blonde album.
The ghost of electricity howls in the bones of her face
Where these visions of Johanna have now taken my place.
